Good morning

I think that chubby ol' whistle pig ah, ground hog  was right. It sure feels like spring. And since the temperatures have been rising, I knew I needed to hurry and get a picture of my favorite fountain in my favorite pose.

The 'Northland' fountain is one of my favorite sites. I love it when it is all frozen over. This is one of the only fountains in Kansas City that is left running all year round. I think it's great when a tiny trickle of water is still coming out of the icy towers. Thanks, KC.

I am planning on completing that scavenger hunt from my friend Deb's blog next week. I will give you the list, maybe you want to get in on this, too.

Snow Storm Act II

We got socked with another snow storm today, I really thought they were over reacting, but, well, there was a lot of snow. It came very quickly and it is very fluffly and pretty. I took pictures.

This is the huge fir tree in the backyard of the house behind our house. This is how heavy the snow is coming down.
You can hardly even see the tree.

Me and My Gal

I spent a couple of hours with my darling daughter a few days weeks ago. The whole idea was she was going to run and I was going to attempt to walk the dogs..........they're big and when they get the idea to go after a squirrel or another dog it can be a challenge.
She also had the idea to take a picture of herself with or next to a 40 MPH road sign. This was to be sent to a friend's friend for the friend's 40th birthday, which was on 10/10/10. I wonder if her mom planned that?

We set out to English Landing park in Parkville, MO. and the only signs we saw were these.

 So we took a couple of pictures of some speed limit signs, and then we played with the dogs. Tucker, the tan little toodle doodle tried to drive the car when we got out to take the pictures, but he reluctantly got back in the back seat when we got back in the car.



The boys love playing rope, and this time for a moment they shared.



 Dawn was kind of up a tree, since all the speed limit signs out here were 20, or 35 miles an hour, I think we even saw a 45, but not what we were looking for.

 We saw this sign with a phone number for anyone needing to rent an apartment, just happened to end in 40, so we thought it would work. Now it was getting pretty dark so we headed home.
Wouldn't you know we found this right out on the main road near our homes.

All that running around for nothing, didn't even get a walk or a run in, but we found the sign.

Fall Fest 2010

Fall Festival October 23, was a big success. Every one seemed to have fun, and had plenty of hot dogs, cotton candy and prizes from the games.
There were hay rides for the little ones and the not so little ones too.

Corn hole toss, they tossed corn cobs, not little girls.

No, he's not the chicken, it was a rubber chicken into a frying pan.

It was a great day. It started out pretty warm and humid, but then we had a short burst of rain and it started getting a little chilly. Unknown to most people there were storms all around us, but the only thing we had to deal with was a lot of wind.
The day was fun for everyone.

Fall

We have been rushing around getting ready for a Fall Festival at our church, and today I think we are ready. The big day is tomorrow and on Sunday evening we will have our service in the tent. I will post some photos then. Today on my way home my friend Janey and I saw this pretty tree, I had to take a picture.

Labor Day 2010

 

Every year from the Friday before until Labor Day there is a huge festival on the square in Independence, MO. Independence is just outside of Kansas City, MO. It is the originating place for the Sante Fe Trail. Yes it is, look it up. ........they have this huge festival that has spilled out of the square and onto surrounding streets. It's great and we usually go to it. Even when we lived in Texas we would sometimes come back and go to it. I love to get a turkey leg, Bill gets a funnel cake, and the home made root beer is great. This is the first place I ever ate, or even heard of kettle corn. It's sweet and salty and when made correctly tastes just a little bit scorched. I won't say burned, because that is just a little too much. It's great, they have lots of craft booths, church displays, community interest things, and you can even register to vote.  Or you can just wander around like the other 50,000 people do, then go home. I love it.

 SantaCalaGon days is the kick off for all the great fall festivals around here. Most of the same craft booths and vendors and food will appear at all of them, but I can't go a whole year without that great smoked turkey leg. I passed on it for today, but I know that come Sept 24th, Liberty, MO is having their fall festival. I'll get my turkey leg fix then, maybe.

The home of Harry S. Truman, 33rd President of the United States of America.

Independence, MO has quite a large Mormon community. This is the temple built back in the 1990's, I think. I have been inside once, and it is very impressive. The pipe organ is huge, and sounds amazing. The spire is open to the sky, kind of looks like a giant  ice cream  cone.
