Conclusion

As the conclusion to our Fall Festival we had an old fashioned tent meeting. Our normal Sunday evening service is at 6:00 PM, but for this out door meeting we moved it up a bit to 4:30 PM. This was to insure that there was enough light and that it didn't get too chilly as the dusk falls earlier this time of year.
Our pastor spoke on the joy of knowing one's salvation is secure in Jesus Christ. Speaking from John 3:16, we were once again reminded of God's great love for us that He sent His only son Jesus to pay the penalty required for sin. There was singing and special music, it was a very nice service.

After the service concluded, we all headed back up the hill to the fellowship hall where we enjoyed a time of fellowship and of course food.
This was a great event, can't wait until next year.

Fall Fest 2010

Fall Festival October 23, was a big success. Every one seemed to have fun, and had plenty of hot dogs, cotton candy and prizes from the games.
There were hay rides for the little ones and the not so little ones too.

Corn hole toss, they tossed corn cobs, not little girls.

Cute little 'barrel train' ride was made by one of our creative members. Thanks Ron

Now it's the BIG KIDS' turn

No, he's not the chicken, it was a rubber chicken into a frying pan.

It was a great day. It started out pretty warm and humid, but then we had a short burst of rain and it started getting a little chilly. Unknown to most people there were storms all around us, but the only thing we had to deal with was a lot of wind.
The day was fun for everyone.

Fall

We have been rushing around getting ready for a Fall Festival at our church, and today I think we are ready. The big day is tomorrow and on Sunday evening we will have our service in the tent. I will post some photos then. Today on my way home my friend Janey and I saw this pretty tree, I had to take a picture.

And the winners are..............

Jan and Dorcas, the two in the center of the picture, each won a prize. Remember the two day shop hop a couple of weeks ago? Well our girls won. One got a basket of goodies, (sewing goodies) and the other a gift certificate. Yeah, over 300 miles of traveling and shopping. Well worth it.

Kids' Care Cartons

You can tell it's fall at our church when the lobby fills with shoe box sized boxes, that are all decorated and securely taped shut. These boxes will be shipped to Russia for use by BMI. Some of the boxes are give to orphans, some to children at camp and others to the hundreds of homeless boys and girls the folks in the churches there come in contact with.
There are lots of treasures packed in these little packages. Nothing liquid, but lots of candy, gum, crayons, soap, socks and underwear. Piles of toys and stuffed animals make the trip in the huge container these boxes will be shipped in. Last but not least the prayers of all the folks at our church go with each box for the child who receives it. Prayers that they will find a bit of joy and a touch of physical comfort in the contents. Prayers too for their everlasting salvation, that the missionaries with BMI will be able to reach each kiddo with the gospel message that Jesus loves them, and died for them so they, like you, can have an eternal home in heaven.
A nice promise for some who may not have had a home at all, yet.

We sent 100 boxes this year.!!

Wear Blue

Today is WORLD ARTHRITIS day. Please wear blue. I know I never heard of this before either, but my good friend Heather, diagnosed at age 17, blogged about it this morning. I am a huge fan of hers, she is an amazing woman.
Heather has a daughter and two sons, home schools, shuttles her kids to games and practices and has a very active life. The cost to her body has been high, but her response is always strong and she is a fighter. Heather is blessed with fabulous parents who have supported her all along the way. Her hubby is a great guy, cute too. And she has 'story book' children.
Please honor my friend by wearing blue today, and keep her and her family in your prayers.
Heather has a very interesting story and a great blog..http://onechinesebrother.blogspot.com/

Well

It's better, but not what I had hoped for, I'll have to work on it next week. Glad I didn't take up web designing, this is hard.
I have been wondering, did anyone hear that they had won any of the prizes from the shop hop?

Arrrrrrrrrrrg

Still not what I want, I want it smaller, arrrrrrrrrg

Help please

As I was trying to freshen up my page, I got all messed up on the Header, any one know how to make a great header for a computer illiterate, I'm all ears.

Quilting

Yesterday I made some progress on my new 'Disappearing Nine Patch'. My only dilemma is how big to make it. I want it to be at least a queen size, and the sort that will hang down nicely, not just lay atop the bed.
So, any quilters with thoughts for me, please chime in. I will post some photos of my progress sometime soon.
Have a great day. Millie, I have you in my favorites.

Apple Fest in Weston, MO

On Saturday we went to the Applefest in Weston, MO. Weston is about 45 minutes away from our neighborhood, and it's a lovely drive out there. But once we were in Weston it took about another 45 minutes to get to the town and the festival. All the roads were blocked and there were uniforms directing traffic. It seemed like we were headed back out of town again.
We finally made it and got a really great parking space. Then we found potties really close with no lines and fresh hand sanitizers. (There was a group of potties near the food court with about 25 people in line.)

The crowd was huge, and the wait for everything was long.

We had our lunch, I had an Italian sausage and Bill had a barbecue, then we waited in line for 20 minutes for an apple dumpling, and said farewell to Weston.

On our way out of town we stopped at the Red Barn, Vaughn's orchard. There was a long line here also. The line was for freshly made, hot apple fritter donuts. They were good, and worth the wait.

The orchards at Vaughn's

Good bye Weston, we'll be back again. This is a picture of my home, the one in my dreams.

Shop Hop Day 2

Well, we headed out on Thursday morning to go south of Kansas City and finish the shop hop. Belton, Higgingsville, Kingsville, Pleasantville, and Warrensburg. We actually put in about 300 miles in two days. I mean that's a lot, when you have to stop and shop and eat and shop and drive and talk and talk and talk.

We found a great place near Kingsville that does retreats. This woman is a quilt designer, and writes books.
We found some wonderful quilt shops out there. I loved spending time with my friends and I got a few pieces of fabric, enough to make this quilt.

Not soon, but in the not too distant future, I will get started on this one.

We had Quilt Day on Friday and I finished my little Christmas quilt. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I know it's been a great learning experience. I am excited to start my next project.

Video

As we were playing with our new toys at our Quilt Day yesterday, I decided to video Dorcas describing her new circle cutter tool. It is a neat tool, and quick to use.

I am excited about the video, it's my first digital video, but I'll tell you right now, it's not my last.
Wahooooooooo.
